Dada Ajusegiri, 42, found himself facing legal proceedings at the Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court, presided over by Magistrate L. Y. Balogun, on counts related to car theft.
The charges against him included two counts of felony for the theft of a 2007 Honda Accord saloon car, valued at N1.8 million.
The court was informed that Ajusegiri, who was employed as a driver by Kayode Ajala, allegedly took advantage of his position on May 16, 2022. Entrusted with the car keys to perform errands, he is accused of absconding with the vehicle and severing all contacts, rendering efforts to locate him or the car unsuccessful.
Prosecutor Chekwube outlined the case, stating the incident not only breached trust but also violated Sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
In response, Ajusegiri entered a guilty plea to the charges, appealing to the court for mercy on the grounds of his familial obligations, particularly his role as a provider for his children.
Following the guilty plea, Magistrate Balogun decided to remand Ajusegiri in police custody, with sentencing to be determined.
