World Record holder in the 100m hurdles, Tobi Amusan, has assured Nigerians that next year’s Olympics Games in Paris, France would be better.
This is against the backdrop of Amusan failing to defend her World title at the 19th World Athletics Championships in Budapest.
However, the 26-year-old’s World Record of 12.12secs set at Oregon, U.S. last year, is still intact.
Amusan, speaking at the Nigerian Embassy in Budapest, Saturday, when the Ambassador hosted Team Nigeria, said; “We came to Budapest to give our best, We actually did, but the results may not be the best outing. Paris 2024 Olympics Games will surely be different.”
The Commonwealth Africa and Nigeria record holder in the 100m hurdles said; “I thank the government and people of Nigeria for the support given to athletics. As I said, there are many Games ahead, and we will do our best to put smile on faces of our people.”
In her remarks, Nigeria’s Ambassador to Hungary, Serbia, Croatia and Bosnian Herzegovina, Her Excellency, Dr Modupe Enitan Irele, appreciated all Nigerian athletes and officials who participated in the 19th World Athletics Championships in Budapest.
She said; “You are gifted people and I am so proud of you.
Speaking to Tobi Amusan, Ambassador Irele said; “Your World Record is still intact because it has not been broken. There must be somethings you are taking home from this Championships as learning points.
“Each Game is different, and as you go back home, hold your head high. As for your World Record, and other athletes holding different records, I pray that you will be the one to break your own record.”
In his vote of thanks, the Technical Director of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Samuel Onikeku said; “On behalf of the AFN President, Chief Tonobok Okowa, and the board members, I thank you for the good reception you gave to us, both in our hotel, and here in the Embassy. We are very grateful.”
On her part, Secretary General of the AFN, Rita Mosinde thanked Ambassador Irele and all the secretariat staff for a job well done.
