The Lagos Passport Command Controller Milka Musa said Monday that there are about 13,800 passports left uncollected at the Lagos Passport offices.

Approximately 12,300 were not picked up at the Ikoyi passport office, while around 1,500 were at the Festac office. She added that the Ikeja Passport Office was also investigating a similar issue.

Mrs Musa urged applicants who had applied at one of the passport offices before September 2021 to collect their passports at the respective application offices.

She went on to confirm that the Passport Control Officer (PCO) in charge of each office had sent reminder text messages to these applicants.

“However, based on the volume of the uncollected passports, I believe the applicants had forgotten they applied for a passport. And these may be the category of applicants who were in haste when they came to apply, “Musa told the News Agency of Nigeria.

“The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) is appealing to these applicants to come and collect their passports,” she said.

Mrs Musa urged future applicants to be more vigilant and assured them that they shouldn’t have to worry about applying for or renewing their passports.

“Nigerians should stop being in a haste when they come to apply for passports because the series of operations and security checks involved before issuance could not be carried out in seconds,” said Mrs Musa.
