Head coach of the Super Falcon, Randy Waldrum has explained why he benched Asisat Oshoala in Monday’s 2024 Olympic Games qualifier against the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon.
The reigning African women’s Player of the Year was expected to start the game, however, Esther Okoronkwo was put up by Waldrum.
The Tenerife star justified the gaffer’s faith by netting the winning goal in the 14th minute.
Oshoala later replaced the forward in the second half.
Waldrum, however, defended his decision saying that he named the best line-up for the game.
“I think we put out what we thought was the best eleven for the day to start the match. But we are fully confident of every player, we had some players that didn’t get minutes but are fully capable of helping us,” the American stated.
