Ocean City unveiled in Lagos

The newest man-made island in Nigeria, Ocean City, was unveiled on Friday, 17th December 2021.

The facility, rightly named ‘Jewel of the Atlantic’ is controlled by an industrialist, entrepreneur and lawyer, Barr. Dewunmi Osagie.

Ocean City occupies 308 hectares reclaimed from the Atlantic Ocean. It is currently accessible by land through an extension of Ahmadu Bello Way and is expected to be accessed by air and water through the proposed Ocean City Lagos Airport and Cruise Terminal.

The idea behind the island is to create a green megacity, the first of its type in the country, which will be powered by the 5G network. This will not only drive effective structure and amenities operation but will impact every aspect of life, delivering smart homes, services, healthcare education via human-to-machine connections and relations.

Ocean City Lagos is promoted by Ocean City Lagos Limited, an affiliate of Sea Global Energy that has a huge background and track record of achievement built over the years, on ample insights on the most efficient technology-adoption ways to impact the retail, communications and real estate sectors.

In 2003, Sea Global Energy was granted approval by the Federal Government to reclaim 350 hectares of land from the Atlantic Ocean, rights to which have been assigned to its Special Purpose Vehicle, Ocean City Lagos Limited.

Ocean City Lagos consists of five districts: Gladys, Madaki, Aremu, Adesola and Five Cowries Districts.

Ocean City is a 308-hectare city, housing world-class medical, cultural and sporting facilities, all held together by a high-tech transportation management system that connects the Ocean city to Lagos, by air, land and sea.

It also boasts of the finest luxury residences and state-of-the-art commercial properties, with the finest gourmet restaurants, shopping malls, public parks, centres for sports, medical, academic, recreational activities.

Present at the ceremony with the motivator was Justice Bode Rhodes-Vivour, JSC (retd); his wife, Doyin Rhodes-Vivour, SAN; Asiwaju Dr Olawale Cole, President, Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Emmanuel Ikazoboh, former Group Chairman, Ecobank.

Others are Oba Solomon Adedire, who represented the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojajah 11, Barrister Mike Ozekhome, SAN and a representative of the Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.
