Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has recently launched a new book titled “The Art of Leading: Unconventional Wisdom from the Bible.” The unveiling of the book took place on Monday in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, as revealed in a statement by his media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi.
The book launch coincided with a dinner at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, which was part of the celebrations for Obasanjo’s 87th birthday. During the event, Obasanjo emphasized the critical role of quality leadership in Africa’s progress.
Bishop Hassan Kukah of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, who reviewed the book, highlighted its focus on the influence Christians can have in politics. The 13-chapter book emphasizes the need for Nigerian leaders to cooperate with divine grace and for Christians in politics to demonstrate their values visibly in their political actions.
Former Ghanaian President John Mahama, the special guest of honor, also spoke at the event, underscoring the importance of wisdom in leadership.
The launch was attended by an array of dignitaries, including traditional rulers, business leaders, members of the diplomatic corps, academics, and close associates of the former President.
In a related event, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun lauded Obasanjo as a key figure in the pursuit of political freedom and good governance. This commendation was part of a lecture given on Tuesday at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library to mark Obasanjo’s 87th birthday. The lecture was themed “Quality Leadership and Inclusive Democracy as Catalysts for Development in a Strife-Ridden World.”
Governor Abiodun praised Obasanjo’s global stature and deep connection to his roots, highlighting his role as a leader in anti-corruption, social justice, and his vision for an economically developed Africa.
Former President Goodluck Jonathan, the chairman of the lecture, identified challenges to quality leadership in Africa, including access to justice, the nature of elections, and tribalism. He pointed out the need to address the ‘winner-takes-all’ mentality in politics.
Also in attendance was Danilo Turk, former President of Slovenia and Chairman of Club De Madrid. Turk spoke about the Club’s involvement in establishing an organization focused on combating global corruption.
