The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig.- Gen YD Ahmed, Thursday, said it is heart- warming to note that since its inception, the NYSC scheme remains a strong pillar of national unity and development.
General Ahmed made the assertion at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Batch ‘B’ pre-mobilisation workshop at Bolton White Hotels & Apartments, Wuse Zone 7 in Abuja, with the Theme; “Strengthening Collaboration with Stakeholders for Effective NYSC Mobilisation Process.”
The DG said “the gathering is a clear testimony of our collective resolve to enhance the integrity of the NYSC mobilisation process through collaborative efforts.
“It is heart-warming to note that, since its inception, the NYSC scheme remains a strong pillar of national unity and development.
“The mobilisation process is not merely a procedural necessity, but the foundation upon which the edifice of national service is built. Your presence here is a clear reflection of your unwavering commitment to the success of the scheme.
“The mobilisation process is the first step in a journey that shapes the lives of very large number of Nigerian youth. It is therefore imperative that we are circumspect in the course of conduct of this exercise.
Let us take this opportunity to reflect on our past successes, analyze our current practices, and envision a future where the NYSC continues to be a beacon of hope and a catalyst for national development.”
“With our collaborative efforts, we can ensure that the mobilisation process remains a cornerstone of the NYSC’s mission to foster unity, encourage self-reliance, and promote sustainable development.”
The DG urged the gathering to engage in comprehensive discussions, share best practices and establish strategic partnerships with a view to making the mobilisation process not only efficient but also adaptable to the evolving needs of our nation.
While declaring the workshop open, the FCT Minister, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, who was represented by the FCT Head of Service, Dr. Udoh Samuel Atang, said the minister acknowledged the contribution of corps members in the course of service to their fatherland, especially at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Wike said: “On our part, the security and welfare of the corps members remain our top priority.”
He said there was urgent need to provide proper illumination at NYSC orientation camp in Kubwa, Abuja, and we installed solar power street lights in the facility.
