Nollywood is mourning the sudden death of actress Pat Ugwu, who passed away at the age of 35. Colleagues have expressed shock and paid tribute to her, while funeral arrangements have been announced
The Nigerian film industry, Nollywood, is in shock after the sudden death of actress Pat Ugwu, who passed away at the age of 35.

The tragic news was shared by her colleague, Emeka Okoye, on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, via an emotional Instagram post.
Okoye expressed his disbelief at the “unusual death,” which he described as “frightening,” and prayed for divine protection over his colleagues, especially those close to him.
In his tribute, he wrote: “Rest in peace sis. Pat Ugwu. @patpat_ugwu so we no get to work again? Death whyooo? God please. Rest in peace, Pat. May your soul rest in the bosom of the Lord.”
The cause of Ugwu’s death remains unknown, further deepening the grief of her friends and fans in the industry.
According to a flier shared by Okoye, Ugwu’s funeral will begin with a wake ceremony on February 6, 2025.
Many of her colleagues, including Kevin Mike, Destiny Etiko, and Nkechi Blessing, have flooded the comment section of the post to pay their last respects, expressing shock and sadness at the news.
Kevin Mike mourned, saying, “Chai, just woke up this morning to hear the death of one of our crew and casts @patpat_ugwu. Rest in peace, dear.”
Destiny Etiko was visibly shaken, writing “Jesus noooooo,” while Nkechi Blessing reacted with disbelief, asking, “Which kind rough play be this?”
Ugwu was known for her roles in several Nollywood films and was beloved by her peers and fans alike.
Her untimely passing has left a void in the industry, and her colleagues have described her death as a great loss to Nollywood.
