The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has announced plans to roll out an additional 100 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations across the country within the next twelve months.
Huub Stokman, Managing Director of NNPC Retail Limited, revealed this on Thursday during the inauguration of 11 CNG stations across various locations in Abuja and Lagos.
“CNG will be about 40 percent cheaper than petrol in Nigeria. And with continued investments, it could become a significant part of our energy mix. In the next 12 months, NNPC Retail will have launched over 100 CNG sites,” Stokman stated.
This initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s launch of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI) in August 2023, aimed at mitigating the impact of the fuel subsidy removal in June last year.
