The Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Olukayode Popoola, revealed that the Agbara-Seme border segment of the Lagos-Badagry highway project will receive N15 billion from the NNPC tax credit fund.

According to Popoola, the intervention cash will expedite the road’s repair.

He went on to say that the CGC Construction Company was awarded the 46-kilometre highway in October 2018 for N63.2 billion adding that the Lagos-Badagry highway is one of the 21 roads designated by the NNPC for funding under the Tax Credit Scheme.

“NNPC fund that is coming is about N15 billion. It will be used for the section where CGC is working between Agbara and the Seme border.

“The contractors have never moved out of site, they are on-site and are working as we are talking,’’ the controller said.

He couldn’t confirm whether the N15 billion NNPC Tax Credit fund had been released, stating that funding matters are handled by accountants.

He however revealed that the last SUKUK funds allotted to the project are still active adding that the project is progressing and nearing close to 20 % completion.

According to him, drainage work had been completed for around 14 kilometres, and six kilometres of the main carriageway had been completed to the final layers.

The Federal Government used alternate sources of funding, including the SUKUK and NNPC Tax Credit schemes, to resolve funding restrictions on the project, he said.

“The speed, the rate of progress will increase in 2022,’’ he said.

He added however that sections one, three, and four of the ongoing Apapa-Oshodi-Ojota-Oworonshoki Expressway reconstruction/rehabilitation project had reached 90% completion.

Maintaining that the major work on the three parts had been completed and that the lanes had been opened to traffic, with only lane markings and street light installations remaining.

The project’s first segment runs from Apapa Port Gate to the Beach Land Estate Bus Stop area, while the third section runs from Cele Bus Stop to Anthony.

The Apapa-Oshodi-Ojota-Oworonshoki Expressway project’s fourth section runs from Anthony Bus Stop to the Ojota Bus Stop region.

Popoola concluded that there will be no further delays in development because the initial issues with trucks and port congestion, which halted the project for around six months, have been resolved.
