The upcoming international friendly match featuring Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Argentina’s Albiceleste has been relocated to the United States of America, with the exact date in March yet to be confirmed.
This change in venue follows the initial plan to host the match in China, which was canceled due to a dispute involving Argentine soccer star, Lionel Messi and Chinese soccer authorities.
Messi’s decision not to participate in a friendly match between his club, Inter Miami, and Hong Kong XI, reportedly due to a groin injury, led to tensions with the Chinese soccer officials.
This disagreement ultimately led to the relocation of the Argentina-Nigeria friendly to the USA.
In addition to facing Nigeria, the Argentine team is scheduled to play against El Salvador in another friendly match during the same month.
For the Super Eagles, this friendly against Argentina will serve as a crucial preparatory step for their upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Nigeria is set to compete against South Africa and Benin Republic in June, and the match against Argentina will provide valuable international experience ahead of these important qualifiers.
