NFF to name Jose Peseiro as Super Eagles coach

There are reports that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) will name Jose Peseiro as the new coach of the Super Eagles team ahead of the start of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

According to Sportinglife, the Portuguese who is currently in charge of the Venezulan national team will be named coach of the Super Eagles.

Peseiro is expected to be in the country by next week alongside AS Roma coach, Jose Mourinho who was said to have recommended the 61-year-old to the NFF and the NFF have offered to foot the bills of Mourinho.

The Super Eagles won’t be under Peseiro for the Africa Cup of Nations, but he will be in Cameroon to observe the team and work with them from a distance before taking over for the World Cup qualifiers.

This week, the terms of his contract is expected to be finalised ahead of the unveiling next week, and after the AFCON, Austine Eguavoen will return to his role as technical director of the NFF.

Additionally, the NFF has two other potential coaches lined up in case they cannot reach an agreement with Peseiro, who previously coached Saudi Arabia, Al Ahly, and a host of other teams was the assistant coach to Mourinho in Real Madrid.

Peseiro has also coached Sporting CP which he took to the 2005 UEFA Cup Final.
