The Nigeria Football Federationon Wednesday said it has opened negotiations for a new contract with Jose Peseiro as the Super Eagles national coach.

This was revealed by the NFF president Ibrahim Gusau who stated that Peseiro’s contract expired in July.

“His contract ended in July and we’re now talking to him and his lawyers.”

The Portuguese signed a one-year contract with the NFF last year and the Gusau said talks were held up because of the delay in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, on which the contract was based.

So far,, Peseiro has led the Super Eagles to qualify for competition which will be held between January and February in Cote d’Ivoire with a game to spare.

“We hope to conclude very soon and a decision will be made based on the recommendations of the technical committee,” said Gusau.

The Super Eagles round out their qualifying campaign on September 10 at home in Uyo against Sao Tome and Principe.
