The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) announced on Sunday that its operatives successfully intercepted a substantial consignment of Loud, a potent synthetic strain of cannabis.

This was according to a statement issued on Sunday by Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy who revealed that the contraband was cleverly concealed in oversized loudspeakers within a consolidated cargo imported from New York, USA.

Upon inspection, the sound boxes revealed 60 bags of the sought-after psychoactive substance, weighing a total of 33.5 kilograms.

Following the operation, Babafemi said, the NDLEA arrested three suspects: freight agent Akeem Afeez, logistics company manager Babalola Ayodeji Gboyega, and the consignment receiver Taiwo Olusegun Anuoluwapo.

In a separate joint raid operation between the NDLEA and the State Homeland Security, a series of arrests were made in Umuahia, Abia.

The individuals apprehended included a female lawyer, Adaobi Nweke, her boyfriend Emeka Nkemefola, her mother Mrs Ngozi Nweke, a herbalist, Dike Okpara, Chukwudi Abel, Amarachi Paul, and salesgirl Blessing Jonathan.

The statement claimed that the family was allegedly deeply involved in the illicit drug business, traced back to the late father, Jonathan Nweke.

The NDLEA reported the recovery of various quantities of cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, loud, Cannabis sativa, and precursor chemicals, totaling 1.670kg. Additionally, monetary exhibits amounting to N578,400 were seized.

The agency also thwarted an attempt by a 25-year-old Uber driver, Joshua Henry, to deliver a consignment of 26.2 grams of Loud from Abuja to a customer in Keffi, Nasarawa State. Furthermore, a 54-year-old Dada Adedara was arrested in Kano with 468 blocks of cannabis weighing 246.4kg.

The NDLEA continues its efforts nationwide, recently making arrests in Ogun, Kogi, Ondo, and Edo states.

The Chairman/CEO of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), commended the agency’s officers in the MMIA, Abia, Nasarawa, Edo, Kogi, Kano, Ogun, Ondo and FCT Commands for their outstanding feats.

He emphasized the significance of balancing drug supply reduction and demand reduction efforts.
