The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a couple, Mmadu Agbakoba and Ijeoma Agbakoba, along with their associate, Ifeoma Okoye, in connection with a major cocaine trafficking operation valued at N2.1 billion.

This was disclosed by Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA’s director of media and advocacy, in a statement on Sunday in Abuja.

The raid targeted a high-profile Lagos-based cocaine syndicate, with large quantities of the class A drug intended for export and local distribution seized from the suspects.

The operation, led by a special unit of the agency, followed months of intelligence gathering and surveillance on the syndicate, notorious for packaging, distributing, and trafficking cocaine within and outside Nigeria.

The NDLEA reported that 54-year-old Mmadu Agbakoba was arrested at Ago Palace Way, Okota, Lagos.

His wife, 39-year-old Ijeoma Agbakoba, and their associate, 31-year-old Ifeoma Okoye, who also served as their stash keeper, were apprehended at Plot 2205 Eugene Ndubisi Close, Lilly Estate, in the Amuwo Odofin area of Lagos.

“Seven parcels of cocaine with a total weight of 7.652kg were recovered from Mmadu at Ago Palace Way,” Babafemi stated.

Additionally, “Not less than 122 compressed pellets of the same drug weighing 2.42kg were seized from the duo of Ijeoma and Ifeoma at Lilly Estate.”

This totals a seizure of 10.1 kilograms of cocaine, valued at over N2.1 billion in street value.

In a related operation, NDLEA operatives in Benue State intercepted 350 grams of cocaine at a checkpoint along Enugu road, Otukpo.

The illicit drug was hidden in an MP3 speaker sent as a waybill parcel. A subsequent operation at Flight Motor Park in Otukpo led to the arrest of 25-year-old Odeh Anthony, the parcel’s owner.

Meanwhile, NDLEA officers in Adamawa State arrested a Chadian, Yves Ahmat Gali, during a stop-and-search operation along Ngurore-Yola road. Gali was found with a loudspeaker containing 20 compressed blocks and nine plastic containers of Loud, a potent strain of cannabis, weighing 5.200kg.

In Kano, operatives arrested Yusuf Abdulrahman, a 25-year-old youth corps member, with 1.250kg of Loud at the Corpers Lodge in Sumaila.

Additionally, the head of the Akarabata community in Ile-Ife, Osun, Ba’ale Ige Babatunde, was arrested with fresh cannabis plants weighing 5kg.

In Ondo State, a raid on the Ikota forest in Ifedore LGA led to the arrests of Monday Ali, 49, and Jimoh Alewi, 37. During the five-day operation, which ended on July 1, NDLEA operatives destroyed 42,500kg of cannabis on 17 hectares of farmland and recovered 73.5kg of the substance for prosecution purposes.
