Engr. Felix Ogbe, Executive Secretary of NCDMB, led a visit to Brightwaters Energy in Port Harcourt to assess their upgraded technical capabilities for future oil and gas projects
On January 28, 2025, Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), visited Brightwaters Energy Limited in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, accompanied by senior officials from Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC).
The visit aimed to assess the company’s upgraded technical capabilities, positioning them for key roles in upcoming industry projects.
Engr. Ogbe reaffirmed NCDMB’s commitment to supporting local service companies in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, emphasising the board’s role in fostering job creation and enhancing local content.
He highlighted the importance of utilising local expertise in upcoming projects, in line with the economic goals of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
Brightwaters Energy, which has a strong track record in heavy and light fabrication, onshore and offshore pipeline engineering, and installation, was commended for its contributions to the oil and gas sector.
The company’s past collaborations with major operators such as SPDC and Chevron Nigeria Limited were acknowledged, with Engr. Ogbe expressing confidence in their capacity to handle future high-scale projects.
This visit follows a previous one in May 2024, when Engr. Ogbe had toured the company’s facilities and expressed support for local service companies.
During the latest visit, he was briefed on Brightwaters Energy’s recent upgrades to its technical capabilities, which are expected to play a pivotal role in upcoming projects in the sector.
The Executive Secretary also called on operating companies in the oil and gas industry to support qualified service providers like Brightwaters Energy, ensuring the delivery of high-quality services on time.
He reiterated the importance of collaborating with capable local firms to enhance the nation’s content in the oil and gas industry.
Brightwaters Energy’s Community and Corporate Affairs Manager, Mr. Solomon Aluge, highlighted the company’s involvement in various projects, including its ongoing mobilisation for Chevron and Tulcan pipeline works.
The company is well-equipped to handle both onshore and offshore pipeline projects, leveraging its technical expertise and state-of-the-art facilities.
The CEO of Brightwaters Energy, Mr. Scott Gregory, also spoke at the event, expressing gratitude for the visit and assuring all stakeholders of the company’s readiness to execute both offshore and onshore projects.
He provided details of successful projects completed by the company in Nigeria, noting that Brightwaters is well-positioned to take on upcoming industry tasks.
During the tour, Engr. Ogbe and the SPDC officials visited key facilities, including a blast furnace where the smelting process was demonstrated, and the Sea Horizon Derrick Lay Barge, a multipurpose offshore construction vessel with a heavy-lift capacity of 1,320 tons.
This vessel plays a crucial role in marine construction activities, including the installation of pipelines, risers, and umbilicals.
The General Manager of Local Content at Shell, Mr. Lanre Olawuyi, expressed his approval of Brightwaters Energy’s upgraded facilities and capabilities, noting that the technical teams would review reports and consider engaging the company in future projects.
He also expressed hope that the company’s progress would attract more opportunities from the oil and gas industry.
The NCDMB delegation included Engr. Abayomi Bamidele, Director of the Project Certification and Authorisation Division (PCAD), Dr. Obinna Ezeobi, Deputy Manager of Corporate Communications and Zonal Coordination, and technical staff member Mr. Ilu Ozekhome.
