The NCDMB and Butane Energy Ltd have launched a 180MT LPG Filling Plant in Kaduna, aiming to boost cleaner cooking fuel access in northern Nigeria.

The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) and Butane Energy Limited have jointly inaugurated a new Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Filling Plant in Kaduna, marking a significant step towards increasing access to cleaner cooking fuel across Nigeria.

The 180-metric-tonne capacity plant, which was launched on November 8, 2024, is part of a broader effort to expand the use of LPG in northern Nigeria.

The commissioning of this new facility is a key milestone in a joint venture aimed at building five LPG plants in the region, with a combined storage capacity of 1,000 metric tonnes.

The Kaduna plant is the second of these facilities, following the successful commissioning of a 100MT LPG Storage and Bottling Plant in Katsina in 2021.

The NCDMB’s Executive Secretary, Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, was represented at the ceremony by Alhaji Abdulmalik Halilu, the Director of Monitoring and Evaluation at NCDMB.

In a statement, Ogbe noted the alignment of this project with the federal government’s goals for job creation and environmental sustainability.

He expressed satisfaction with the progress made by Butane Energy Ltd, highlighting the importance of the partnership and its potential to provide local employment opportunities.

Over 200 Nigerians are expected to gain employment through this initiative, which also supports local content growth.

This project is also in line with the Federal Government’s commitment to net-zero emissions by 2026 and the promotion of cleaner alternatives to traditional cooking fuels like kerosene and firewood.

The NCDMB’s involvement in the project is part of its broader mandate to catalyse in-country capacity development through equity investments in sectors such as LPG storage, trading, and marketing.

Butane Energy, established in 2017, is a key player in the LPG storage and marketing sector in Nigeria.

The company’s chairman, Alhaji Isa Inuwa Muhammed, expressed gratitude for NCDMB’s support and trust in Butane’s business approach.

He emphasised the strong relationship between the company and the Board, which is based on mutual trust and shared goals.

The new Kaduna LPG Filling Plant is just one part of Butane Energy’s ambitious plan to expand LPG access across northern Nigeria.

The Kano LPG Storage and Bottling Plant is expected to be commissioned in the first quarter of 2025, while construction work on a facility in Bauchi is progressing rapidly. Abuja is next in line to benefit from this transformative initiative.

NCDMB’s strategic third-party investments are designed to support the development of local capacity, reduce reliance on traditional fuels, and foster a more sustainable, environmentally friendly future for Nigeria.
