NCDC records 6 COVID-19 deaths on Sunday, Rivers overtakes Lagos to top list

According to the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, Nigeria has reported six more COVID-19 deaths and 537 fresh cases of the virus on Sunday.

The figures released in the early hours Monday by the NCDC showed a significant drop in the number of cases released on Sunday for Saturday, 766 cases were reported on Saturday.

Also, the new report sees Rivers State overtake Lagos in the number of infections. Out of the 537 cases, Rivers recorded 313 cases, a 159 cases increase compared to what it recorded the previous day.

Lagos, the epicentre of the virus recorded 178 cases to come second, a drop from the 261 cases it raked in on Saturday.

According to NCDC, “On the 9th of January 2022, 537 new confirmed cases and 6 deaths were recorded in Nigeria.

“Till date, 248,312 cases have been confirmed, 218,997 cases have been discharged and 3,077 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

“The 537 new cases are reported from 8 States- Rivers (313), Lagos (178), FCT (19), Kaduna (11), Gombe (6), Ogun (6), Ekiti (3) and Abia (1)

“A multi-sectoral national emergency operations centre (EOC), activated at Level 2, continues to coordinate the national response activities.”
