The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) reported more than 4,000 cases of COVID-19 across the country within 24 hours, based on the latest epidemiological data.

The data suggest that Lagos State is presently driving the fourth wave of the pandemic, as stated by the WHO and the NCDC.

As of December 22, the NCDC says Lagos accounts for 3,393 COVID-19 cases, which is 84 per cent of the total cases of 4,035 reported in a single day.

NCDC had earlier criticized the disregard of extant non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs), which include: regular hand washing with soap and water, use of alcohol-based hand sanitisers, use of facemasks, practices of social distancing, and avoiding large gatherings.

In order to prevent the escalation of Cases of COVID-19, particularly with the Delta and Omicron variants, the NCDC urges Nigerians to be cautious during the festive season. The NCDC says a total of 231 413 confirmed cases have been reported in Nigeria so far with 211,853 discharges.
