Napoli on Wednesday confirmed Antonio Conte as the new coach to become the club’s fifth manager in little over a year.
The deposed Serie A champion announced that Conte signed a three-year contract worth $6.5 million per season plus bonuses.
“I’m so proud that Antonio Conte is Napoli’s new coach, Antonio is a top coach and a leader, so I’m convinced that we’ll be able to rebuild the foundations in the way that we need to following the conclusion of the cycle that led us to Scudetto glory last year after many years at the top of Italian soccer,” club president Aurelio De Laurentiis said.
The 54-year-old Italian said, “An important, new chapter in Napoli’s history gets underway today.
“Napoli is a club of huge importance on the international stage,” Conte said in a statement. “I’m happy and excited by the idea of taking my seat in the Napoli dugout.
“I can certainly promise one thing: I’ll give my all to develop the team and the club. I’m fully committed to the task at hand, as are my staff.”
Conte has managed topflight teams like Chelsea, Juventus, Tottenham, Inter Milan and his home country Italy.
He’s won the one EPL title, 3 Serie A title.
In 2022/ 2023 season, Napoli lifted its first Serie A trophy in 33 years under Luciano Spalletti and have since been struggling to keep a coach since Spalletti’s resignation to become Italy’s coach after Roberto Mancini’s shock resignation.
Napoli, trying to defend the title have signed Rudi Garcia, Walter Mazzarri and Francesco Calzona but the club only went from bad to worse and finished in 10th place to miss out on all European competitions.
