Napoli manager, Rudi Garcia, hopes Victor Osimhen will come through for the team with goals during their UEFA Champions League clash against SC Braga on Wednesday.
Osimhen has not scored for the Partenopei in his last two appearances.
The 2023/24 Champions League kicked off yesterday and Napoli will start their campaign in an away clash at the Estadio de Municipal de Braga tonight.
Garcia is optimistic the Nigerian will score against the Portuguese side.
“Osimhen started well with two goals in three games and we hope he can get back on target tomorrow (today),” the gaffer said, according to Football Italia.
The 24-year-old scored five goals in the competition for Napoli last season.
Meanwhile, Nigeria head coach Jose Peseiro has revealed he is thrilled Osimhen did not leave Napoli in the summer.
During the transfer window, the forward was courted by the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain.
However, Osimhen shunned them to remain at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.
Peseiro stated that it was good for Nigeria that Osimhen remains at Napoli.
“But Victor is very happy in Napoli. For his growth path, staying in Europe and showing off in the Champions League remains the best way. He is young and has time to prove his talent,” he told Italian news outlet Gazzetta dello Sport.
“Then I understand that in the face of certain offers one can waver: two seasons in Arabia are worth more than ten in Europe, but money is not everything. Victor has improved a lot in Italy.”
