Nigerian comedian and activist, Mr Macaroni, and actress Uche Jombo have reacted to the lifting of the seven-month-old suspension of Twitter in Nigeria by President Muhammadu Buhari.

During the ban, many Nigerians were accessing Twitter via Virtual Private Networks (VPNs).

Reacting to the suspension in a tweet on Thursday, Mr Macaroni wrote: “Oh Oh… e don tire una? Welcome back ooo. You people banned yourselves not Twitter. Na una go!! We never left.”

Uche also made a tweet asking if the report was true.

She wrote, “I hear Twitter ban in Nigeria has been lifted.”

Media personalities Ebuka Obi-Uchendu and Frank Donga also reacted.

“In time for the election season,” Ebuka wrote.

“The Federal Government should just say they have decided to come back to Twitter instead of claiming to lift the ban,” Frank tweeted.

Buhari had ordered the suspension lifted effective midnight Thursday.

Announcing its official return, Twitter assured the Nigerian government of its commitment to driving civic participation.

It said, “We are pleased that Twitter has been restored for everyone in Nigeria. Our mission in Nigeria and around the world is to serve the public conversation.

“We are deeply committed to Nigeria, where Twitter is used by people for commerce, cultural engagement, and civic participation.

“We’re committed to integrating diverse perspectives that make our service better for everyone.”
