Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has challenged the recent claim by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) that they did not arrest or detain the late singer, Mohbad.
The development follows a statement made by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, on Friday, disclosing that the NDLEA is currently under investigation in connection with Mohbad’s death, specifically focusing on a video showing the singer’s arrest by the agency.
The NDLEA had previously responded to allegations of Mohbad’s arrest and detention on February 24, 2022, categorically denying any involvement and dismissing claims of administering any substances to the late singer.
In response to the NDLEA’s recent statements, Iyabo Ojo shared video clips of the arrest incident from February 2022, which had widely circulated on social media.
She also posted a video in which Mohbad recounted his alleged ordeal, claiming he was given a substance to drink while in NDLEA custody.
Iyabo Ojo questioned why the agency did not refute the news earlier if it was indeed false.
In her Instagram post, Ojo captioned, “My take!!! This happened in February 2022. Why didn’t the @ndlea_nigeria come out then to correct or debunk the news if it was all lies!!! Clearly, there was a situation, are these not your men, beating, harassing, and arresting… or am I not seeing handcuffs?”
The controversy surrounding Mohbad’s death began when a video of him went viral after his demise, in which he claimed to have been arrested by law enforcement agents.
In the video, Mohbad alleged that he was given water in a white bottle to drink, accused of drug use, and subsequently released, while others were detained.
“They gave me water inside a white bottle to drink. They said I was using drugs. I was the only one who drank it; they didn’t give others to drink.
“And they immediately told me to go home and told the others to wait. They even hit a gun on my head. I saved Zino in that video but Zino snitched on me,” he said.
