Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has insisted that there was no excuse for not qualifying for the Champions League.

The Egyptian, who admitted that the team failed and let fans down this season were left to finish in fifth place when Manchester United defeated Chelsea 4-1 on Thursday night. This is as Newcastle had already clinched a top-four place with Monday night’s goalless draw with Leicester City.

This season, Liverpool have not played well as this will be the first time the last season Champion’s League second runner-up would not make the top four since Klopp became the manager in 2015.

The 30-year-old wrote on Twitter, “I’m totally devastated. There’s absolutely no excuse for this,”

“We had everything we needed to make it to next year’s Champions League, and we failed.

“We are Liverpool and qualifying to the competition is the bare minimum. I am sorry, but it’s too soon for an uplifting or optimistic post. We let you and ourselves down.”
