For stealing a Tiger power generator, a Lagos State magistrate sentenced a 28-year-old mechanic, Rotimi Olowu, to three months of community service on Thursday.

Following Olowu’s guilty plea, the Magistrate, Mrs O.Y. Adefope, handed down the sentence. In place of a fine, Adefope ordered that the convict clean the Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court premises every weekday for three months.

The convict, who resides in Gbagada, Lagos State, was charged with stealing on September 20.

According to Insp Magaji Haruna, he said that the offence was committed on September 16 at No. 3, Odunsanya Street, Bariga, Lagos by Olowu. He claimed that Olowu broke into the residence of one Florence Oduwole and stole a Tiger power generator worth N25,000.

He claimed that Olowu stole the generator when Odowole wasn’t at home.

The prosecutor said that the mechanic pretended to be taking the generator for repair.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that stealing contravenes Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
