Kylian Mbappé has revealed he never discussed staying at Paris Saint-Germain beyond 2024.
There were reports that Mbappé wrote a letter to PSG telling them he does not wish to extend his contract now the French international has cleared the air on the content of the letter.
Last summer, the 24-year-old snubbed Real Madrid and penned a lucrative contract with PSG to stay two more years with the option for a third.
In a statement to AFP, Mbappe insisted the Parisian club has always known of his intention to depart in 2024.
“The management of the club in charge of the extension [was informed] as of July 15, 2022, of the decision [not to continue beyond 2024],” Mbappe’s statement read.
“The letter was only to confirm what had already been clarified orally beforehand.”
Currently, PSG will have to sell the forward this summer instead of him walking away for free in 12 months even as Real Madrid are in need of a striker following Karim Benzema’s exit to the Middle East.
