On Thursday, an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State ordered the detention of a 30-year-old man, Saheed Safuraini, for allegedly defiling a 14-year-old girl.

Safuraini was charged with two counts of sexual assault and breach of peace by the police.

According to the prosecution, ASP. Kehinde Ajayi, the defendant committed the act on Oct. 29 at Idi Aba Street, Epe Lagos.

“The defendant allegedly assaulted the young girl indecently by forcefully having sexual intercourse with her.

“He also conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of public peace by assaulting the 14 -year-old girl.

“The parents of the girl reported the case at the Epe police division for prosecution,’’ he said.

Ajayi requested that the defendant be remanded in a correctional facility for at least 30 days.

She claimed the offense was in violation of Sections 137 and 168 of the Lagos State Criminal Law of 2015.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs O.A Ajibade, however did not accept Safuraini’s plea, but she did direct that the case file be referred to the Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice.

The matter was deferred by Ajibade until December 9th for a hearing.
