The Nigerian Police Force’s Special Weapons and Tactical Team, SWAT, has arraigned Stanley Oladapo Feyisayo, 43, a suspected fraudster, in a Lagos Magistrates Court for allegedly acquiring N7,500,000 under false pretence.

He was arraigned before the Igbosere Magistrate’s Court at the Yaba Magistrate’s Court in Lagos for allegedly collecting N7.5 million from one Taiwo Micheal under the guise of processing a Canada Visa with resident and working permit for him to travel abroad, a claim the police said the defendant knew to be false.

According to the police, the incident occurred in October 2018 when the defendant allegedly introduced himself to the complainant as a visa agency and demanded N7, 500,000 to process a Canada visa, residence permit, and working permit for him to travel to Canada to live and work.

According to the police, the defendant allegedly fled after receiving the money from the complainant and turned off his phones.

The complainant reported the event to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP in charge of SWAT, DCP Durosimi Olatoye, who dispatched his crack unit led by Inspector Uwaeze Onuoha to find the defendant wherever he could be found after waiting several months without seeing him.

The police squad followed the defendant to a hideout in Lagos and nabbed him after days of intelligence gathering.

Feyisayo, a resident of Ikorodu, Lagos, was charged with three counts of obtaining money under false pretences and stealing before the court.

In the case designated T/03/2021, police prosecuting counsel Adegola Phillip informed the court that the defendant committed the offence in Ikorodu, Lagos, in October of 2018.

Phillip testified in court that the defendant duped the complainant and took his money in order to obtain a Canadian visa with a residency and working permit so that he could travel abroad, but that the defendant instead put the money to his own use and disappeared before being apprehended.

He said the crimes were punishable under sections 411, 314 (1) (2), and 287 of the Lagos State Criminal Laws of 2015.

Feyisayo, on the other hand, pleaded not guilty to the charges, and his lawyer, Anayo Agbo, urged the court to grant him bail in the broadest terms possible.

Magistrates O.N.Y. Ojuromi granted him N1 million bail with two sureties in the same amount, and the case was adjourned until December 8, 2021.
