A 60-year-old man, Ogungbe Emmanuel, who allegedly assaulted his wife’s lawyer in a family matter was on Wednesday arraigned before an Ebute-Metta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Ogungbe pleaded not guilty to a two-count charge of assault and breach of public peace.
The Prosecution Counsel, Insp Kolade Tedunjaye, told the court that Ogungbe committed the offence on May 15 in the premises of the Chief Magistrate Court Ebute Metta West.
According to Tedunjaye, Ogungbe attacked Alowonle Yetunde, who represented his wife in a family matter that involved Ogungbe.
He said Ogungbe pounced on the counsel and inflicted serious injury on her, adding that the offence violates sections 168 and 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Magistrate, O.O. Ikobayo, granted Ogungbe bail in the sum of N500,000, with two responsible sureties in like sum.
She ordered Ogungbe to submit his international passport and held that one of the sureties must have a landed property.
The matter was adjourned until June 7.
