Man arraigned for stealing N4m armoured cable at Eko Atlantic City

A suspected cable vandal, 42-year-old Lekan Adegbola, has been arrested and charged before a Lagos Magistrate Court for allegedly stealing armoured cable valued at N4 million at the Eko Atlantic City project in Victoria Island, Lagos.

On 8 January 2022, nemesis caught up with Adegbola when he allegedly sneaked into the Eko Atlantic City project site at midnight to steal cables valued at N4 million.

According to the police, Adegbola was caught when the security men on duty caught him trying to escape with the stolen cable, the security men sent a distress call to the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Bar beach division, Victoria Island, Lagos, who sent his men to the scene and arrested the defendant.

Adegbola was charged before the Tinubu Magistrate’s Court on a three-count charge of stealing.

Police Counsel, Ajaga Agboko informed the court that the defendant committed the offences at midnight on the Eko Atlantic City project site, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Agboko told the court that the armoured cable is worth N4m and that the offences, the defendant committed were punishable under sections 411, 287 (7) and 328 of the criminal court of Lagos State 2015.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges and Magistrate A. Alogba granted him N1, 000, 000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

The case was adjourned till 27 January 2022, the defendant was ordered to be kept at the Ikoyi Correctional Facility till his bail conditions are perfected.
