A 32-year-old man, Wasiu Thomas, was brought before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court on charges of theft, conspiracy, and breach of public peace.

The accused, whose residential details remain undisclosed, is implicated in the theft of cables worth an estimated N700,000.

The prosecution, led by Inspector Tope Adegbite, alleged that Thomas, alongside accomplices who are yet to be apprehended, committed the offenses on November 28 at 100 Okobaba Street, Ebute-Meta, Lagos. Despite the serious nature of the charges, Thomas maintained his innocence, entering a plea of not guilty.

The case, which has garnered attention due to the significant value of the stolen property, is being closely watched. The court has yet to announce further details regarding bail or the date for the next hearing.

Thomas’s plea sets the stage for a trial that will determine the veracity of the allegations against him.

Adegbite said that the defendant stole the cable from the house where Ms Bisola Hamzat, Mr Alaba Talabi and Mr Marcus Black reside.

He said that the defendant also breached public peace by trying to escape before he was caught by passersby.

Adegbite said that the offences contravened Sections 168 (d), 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
