LAWMA urges Ajiran community to comply with environmental laws

Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA)’s CEO and Managing Director, Mr Ibrahim Odumboni, has challenged residents and shop owners to mobilise the Ajiran community of Eti-Osa Local Government area to pay their waste bills and patronise assigned PSP waste management companies.

Odumboni, who gave the charge at a meeting with the Monarch of Ajiran Community, HRM Oba Tijani Akinloye, representatives of CDAs/CDCs and other stakeholders in the community, expressed dissatisfaction with the state of the environment, imploring the participants to mobilise youths to police the blackspots in the axis.

In his words, there is nowhere in the world where waste services are free, and he warned residents of the community that further environmental infractions would be met with full force by the law.

LAWMA’s Chief Technical Officer, Dr Olohunwa Tijani, urged the residents to support LAWMA in its efforts to achieve a clean and sustainable environment.

As a deterrent to would-be defaulters, some shops in the neighbourhood have been sealed for reckless waste disposal and other environmental infractions.

In response, HRM Oba Tijani Akinloye, Monarch of the Ajiran Community, praised the LAWMA boss and other management members for their efforts to keep Lagos clean.

In his speech, he promised to mobilize stakeholders in the community to work with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to ensure compliance with the state’s environmental laws and maintain a clean environment.

Other LAWMA officials present at the meeting included the Assistant General Manager East District, Mr Adesina Adewale; Assistant General Manager, Lekki Free Trade Zone, Mrs Bola Adewunmi; Head of Advocacy Unit; Mr Victor Adedeji; Head of ICT Unit and Mr Tosin Olaniyan, among others.
