The Lagos State Government has revealed plans to prosecute business owners and manufacturers selling adulterated and expired products ahead of the December rush.
The General Manager, of Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA), Afolabi Solebo advised consumers to be cautious.
Solebo said the authorities were aware that ember months are when some people sell products that are about to expire or already expired.
“This is the time they will start doctoring the manufacture date and expiry date.”
Solebo said goods found to be adulterated would be confiscated while the perpetrators would face the law.
The GM assured that the agency would continue to carry out public enlightenment.
Solebo added that first-time offenders are usually made to pay fines or sent to prison.
“If you are a second-time offender, you will be made to pay a fine and you get one-year imprisonment without any option of fine”, he explained.
