The Lagos State Government has announced that it will redirect traffic at Apapa Road in the Oyingbo area of the state beginning from Tuesday, November 16th, 2021 to Tuesday, January 11th, 2022, for a two-month period as part of the ongoing Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Redline Project Phase I (Oyingbo – Agbado).
According to a statement signed by the Honourable Commissioner for Transportation, Dr Frederic Oladeinde, the detour will force a partial closure of the route for the start of construction of the Oyingbo Overpass.
The Commissioner assured motorists and road users that alternate routes have been plotted out and that traffic flow on Apapa Road will be reduced with the provision of temporary lanes for motorists throughout the construction period.
In a similar light, he stated that traffic on Murtala Mohammed Way will be diverted from Abeokuta Street to join Borno Way inwards Coates Street in order to access Murtala Mohammed Way and that motorists will have access to Cemetery Street from Abeokuta Street.
According to Oladeinde, there would be no inbound or outbound traffic from Ibadan Street, Ondo Street, or Jebba Street as Borno Way will act as an alternative route.
Also according to the Transport Commissioner, the State Traffic Management Authority will be available to supplement the signs installed along the routes to guide vehicles and minimize any disturbance.
While he appealed with motorists’ for their cooperation in ensuring the project’s success, he reaffirmed the Babajide Sanwo-Olu-led administration’s commitment to the development of transportation infrastructure within the metropolis, stating that a Multi-Modal Transportation System will boost the citizenry’s and the State’s economic prowess.
