The Lagos State Government has commenced the construction of a 1.3-kilometre road in Ayubu-Bashorun Street, Ilupeju Community, Ijede LCDA, Ikorodu.
This initiative aligns with Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s mandate of making Lagos State a 21st-century economy and aims to enhance infrastructural development at the grassroots level.
The project, intended to improve road networks in the community and reduce travel time for vehicles and pedestrians, was officially launched by Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, on Tuesday at the project site.
During the flag-off ceremony, Dr. Agbaje highlighted that the road construction is one of many projects planned for rural communities under the T.H.E.M.E.S. Plus Agenda of Governor Sanwo-Olu’s administration. He emphasized that these constructions are strategic efforts by the State Government to facilitate easier movement and reduce rural-urban migration.
Dr. Agbaje urged community members to cooperate with the contractor to ensure the safety of workers and to take ownership of the project upon its completion by protecting and safeguarding it. He mentioned that the project is scheduled for completion within 12 months, and the contractor, Messrs.
SVV International Investments Limited, has been mobilized to start work immediately. He called on the contractor to adhere strictly to the timeline and quality standards outlined in the contract.
Hon. Abiodun Moshood, a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Ikorodu Constituency II, praised Governor Sanwo-Olu for his commitment to grassroots development, particularly in rural communities like Ikorodu. He noted that such projects bring Lagos State closer to its goal of creating a Greater Lagos through strategic rural infrastructure.
Mrs. Kikelomo Bolarinwa, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, expressed gratitude to Governor Sanwo-Olu for initiating development projects in Ijede LCDA, emphasizing that community-based road constructions will ensure the T.H.E.M.E.S. Plus Agenda reaches all parts of Lagos, especially rural areas.
Honourable Motunrayo Alogba, Chairman of Ijede LCDA, represented by Hon. Ajayi Abiodun, Supervisor for Works in the Council, also thanked the Governor for the development, assuring that the project will be meticulously guarded. She expressed confidence that this project marks the beginning of many developmental initiatives in Ijede.
Community leaders, including Baale Oko-Ope in Ilupeju Community, Chief Sikiru Abiola Saulabiu, and CDA Chairman, Alhaja Hon. Kehinde Fesomu, praised Governor Sanwo-Olu for including the Ilupeju community in the state’s development agenda. They pledged the community’s support to ensure the safety and security of the contractor and the project.
