The Lagos State Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has initiated an investigation following a viral social media video highlighting the significant revenue loss faced by fish farmers due to the death of many Tilapia fish. The fish deaths are allegedly linked to dredging activities near the fish farm.
In response, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Mineral Resources, Engr. Abiola Olowu, announced the issuance of a stop-work order to all dredging operations in the affected area. A Solid Mineral investigative team, led by Geologist Emilio Cardoso, Director of Solid Mineral Department, has been deployed to conduct a thorough examination and laboratory tests to determine the authenticity and cause of the claims.
Geologist Cardoso acknowledged the unfortunate event and emphasized the importance of not jumping to conclusions before a proper investigation is completed.
He assured that rigorous testing of water, fish, and other relevant materials will be conducted to identify the root cause of the fish deaths. Cardoso also mentioned that the ministry is committed to an unbiased investigation process and ensuring the protection of all Lagosians and their businesses within the legal framework.
He reassured the public that the outcome of the investigation would be transparently shared and appropriate actions taken based on the findings.
The Sanwo-Olu administration is actively overseeing the situation to prevent future incidents, ensuring that the interests of all parties are safeguarded.
