The Lagos State government has advised women to prioritize good nutrition, emphasizing its critical role in maintaining health. The Commissioner for the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Cecilia Dada, made this statement during the ministry’s program, ‘Ounje Lore Awo,’ held at the palace of the Onisabe of Igbobi Sabe, Yaba, Lagos.
Highlighting the health risks associated with malnutrition, Dada stressed the state government’s efforts to combat this issue. She urged women to maintain a balanced diet to enhance their well-being.
“This is a Federal Government initiative meant to be domesticated by all the states in the federation to address malnutrition and nutrition-related issues in Nigeria,” she said.
“The food we consume provides our bodies with essential nutrients to function. Without an adequate diet, we become more susceptible to illness and disease, and our bodies will not be able to work at optimal capacity. The justification for good nutrition is undeniable, as the ministry was part of the domestication process for quality food and nutrition programmes in Nigeria.”
Dada also encouraged women to undergo regular health checks and engage in regular exercise, noting, “Proper nutrition is essential for physical, mental, and emotional health. The importance of eating right cannot be overemphasized.”
During the program, the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, provided free medical checkups for cervical and breast cancer.
Additionally, the ministry distributed foodstuffs, including rice, beans, garri, eggs, vegetable oil, and ewedu, to participants.
