The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency, LASEPA, and the Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority, LSLGA, have teamed up to encourage the use of cooking gas by the general public while promoting the recycling of plastic bottle waste in the state in an effort to reduce air and environmental pollution.

LASEPA’s General Manager, Dr Dolapo Fasawe, revealed this at a presentation yesterday to promote the initiative held at Ikorodu Town Hall.

According to the LASEPA boss, “Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is particularly concerned about the health and environment of Lagosians and in protecting these we have to stop burning fossil fuels. To stop burning fossil fuels, what do we cook with? We cook with gas. The truth is we have done the research and we have seen that a lot of people do not even understand the benefits in terms of cost, in terms of health, in terms of efficiency of cooking with gas.”

Speaking further, Fasawe added that, “the quality of your health is directly proportional to the quality of your environment. So by keeping your environment clean, watching what you inhale, avoiding air pollution, you’re protecting your health and protecting your children.” The CEO of LSLGA, Mr Bashir Are, advised the masses to embrace and practice cooking with gas to see the benefits of promoting a healthy environment, clear breathing air and reducing the impact of environmental pollution. Hundreds of residents of Ikorodu and its environs besieged the venue of the event with nylons of used plastic bottles and worn-out kerosene stoves in exchange for cash, propane gas cylinders, and rechargeable lamps.
