General Manager of Lagos State Drivers Institute (LASDRI), Mrs. Afusat Abike Tiamiyu has cautioned the motoring public to embrace safety precaution measures during the forthcoming Sallah Celebration and beyond.
The advice was contained in her Sallah message issued by the General Manager to the Muslim faithful and stakeholders in the transport sector, urging the motoring public to show love to other road users in the spirit of the celebration.
According to her, driving during the festive season is associated with and characterized by increased vehicular movement, delay, traffic congestion and other forms of demands as a result of a quest for movement of people and goods from one point to another.
Tiamiyu observed that drivers exhibit different driving techniques and behaviours on the road to meet targets during this period. Consequently, it becomes imperative to encourage and admonish the motoring public to demonstrate the highest professional conduct by adhering to traffic rules and regulations and also practice all driving skills, etiquette and techniques acquired at the Training Institute.
The LASDRI boss argued that “You can not offer what you don’t have, as such, it becomes necessary for all professional drivers to come to the institute for their yearly training to update and improve their driving skills and knowledge”.
Furthermore, she admonished drivers to fix and put their vehicles in proper shape before embarking on any trip, adding that they should also be conscious of their brake system and weather. “Drive slowly and carefully through fog, switch on your car lighting, and make sure the wipers are in good condition”, the General Manager cautioned.
She stressed that drivers should not be enticed by the compelling crowd of passengers during this period, noting that some drivers would like to double their trip by overloading and overspeeding to make more money.
In her words: “Start your trip early, for starting up earlier discourages over speeding, don’t drink and drive, be civil and responsible by obeying all traffic rules, signs and safety officials and don’t drive against traffic”.
“As you mark this year’s Eid-el-Kabir, I urge you to show patience and obey all traffic rules and regulations to avoid any form of road mishaps. Remember that the Central message of this season evolves around tolerance, diligence, sacrifice, and obedience”, she concluded.
