The Lagos State Cooperative College (LASCOCO) has concluded arrangements to hold a one-day symposium with the theme: “Venturing into Power Sector: The Electricity Cooperative Model”, on the viability of Cooperative Societies participating actively in the power sector in line with the new electricity law in the country.

Titled, “Venturing into Power Sector: The Electricity Cooperative Model”, the symposium will be held at the Lagos State Cooperative College Training Hall, Oko-Oba, Agege, Lagos on Thursday, 23rd of November 2023 at 10 am.

Speaking on the forthcoming event, the Provost of the College, Mr. Akorede Ojomu revealed that the symposium would be an avenue to expose Cooperative Societies in the State to the business opportunities in the power sector and how to take advantage provided by the newly signed electricity law.

He said, “The symposium will unravel the new electricity law which empowers states, companies and individuals to participate in all facets of electricity generation, transmission and distribution and how individuals with little common pool of financial resources together, which Cooperative Societies provide platforms can participate in power business”.

Ojomu added that, “Cooperative societies are in a better position to make a meaningful impact in the electricity industry with the window of opportunities provided by the law given the philosophy and the relative advantage of financial resource pool at Cooperative Societies disposal”.

The event will have a guest lecturer Dr. Usman Gur. Muhammed, the immediate Past Chief Executive Officer of Transmission Company of Nigeria.
