Lagos warns against uncoordinated physical development on regional roads

The Lagos State Government has issued a strong caution against uncoordinated physical constructions along the current Regional Road alignments, particularly in Shapatta, near Victoria Garden City, where it has ordered an immediate suspension of construction.

Dr Idris Salako, the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, during a routine monitoring visit observed with dismay the alarming rate of illegal and haphazard development along Harrison Drive, Shapatta, behind VGC, Lekki.

He voiced alarm that rogue developers had continued to construct arbitrarily along the axis, warning that the tendency could result in degradation right away.

The Commissioner handed owners of all unapproved developments in the area 14 days to regularize with the Ministry, while he issued a suspension order on new developments, reiterating that the Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law 2019 (as amended) is still in effect.

Dr Salako insisted on fast adherence to the decision, saying that the State Government would not hesitate to remove any developments that did not comply.
