A truck driver, Mukailu Mohammed was brought before the Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State, charged by the Lagos State Police Command with conspiracy and theft. Magistrate O.Y. Adefope presided over the case where Mohammed faced accusations of stealing flour valued at N3.6 million from Golden Penny Flour Mill in Apapa, Lagos.

The case was initiated following a complaint on August 9, 2023, alleging that Mohammed, a driver for the company, was tasked with delivering 600 50kg bags of flour to a customer in Agbara, Ogun State. Contrary to his duty, Mohammed reportedly diverted 120 of these bags, worth N3,606,790.40, and left the truck at Golden Transport Company on Oworonshoki Expressway, Gbagada.

Efforts to locate Mohammed at his residence were initially futile. However, after obtaining a court order to track his phone, detectives found him in Plateau State. Another court order allowed for the freezing of Mohammed’s bank account, which led to the retrieval of crucial details aiding his arrest on February 7, 2024.

During his arraignment, the prosecutor, Haruna Magaji, cited that Mohammed’s actions on August 9, 2023, breached Sections 411 and 280 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. Evidence presented included a bank statement and a police report.

Mohammed pleaded not guilty to the charges. Magistrate Adefope granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must verify their residency in Lagos State. The hearing was adjourned to April 17, 2024.
