Over the weekend, Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Toke Benson-Awoyinka, visited the French Cognac pop-up experience, the Martell Tower.

What she anticipated as a marketing showcase turned into a revelation of culture, craftsmanship, and innovation, leaving her with high praise for its creative and impactful presentation.

“I thought this was just another clever branding campaign,” Benson-Awoyinka admitted.

“But as I went through the tour, I realised it’s so much more. It’s beyond just the cognac—it’s truly an educational experience.”

The Martell Tower takes visitors on a captivating exploration of cognac’s 300-year heritage, delving into the artistry of its creation, from grape selection to the intricate distillation process.

The Commissioner noted how the experience sparked a newfound curiosity about the craftsmanship involved.

“This has inspired me to learn more about the grapes, distillation process, and the journey that brought us to the creation of such fine cognac,” she remarked.

“This vision transcends selling a product to celebrating heritage, innovation, and artistry. Kudos to the team for creating something so impactful.”

Benson-Awoyinka commended the Martell Tower for its ability to educate while entertaining, highlighting its potential to attract both local and international audiences.

She described it as a benchmark for cultural and luxury attractions in Lagos, which could enhance the city’s reputation as a vibrant hub for experiential tourism.

“This is a shining example of how culture and luxury can intersect to create something truly meaningful,” she added. “I encourage everyone to visit and experience it for themselves.”

Micheal Ehindero, Managing Director of Pernod Ricard Nigeria, expressed gratitude for the Commissioner’s recognition.

“We are deeply honoured by the recognition received today. This reaffirms our commitment to delivering an experience that exceeds expectations,” he stated.

Ehindero emphasised that the Martell Tower is more than a social hub. It is a platform to celebrate the artistry of French cognac, share a 300-year legacy, and foster cognac education within Nigeria.

With initiatives like the Martell Tower, Lagos continues to set a high standard for cultural tourism, blending global heritage with local vibrancy to create unique, memorable experiences.
