Lagos State Task Force has impounded 82 motorcycles known as okada for operating on the Lekki-Epe Expressway in a raid of the Ajah axis and its environs.
According to the Chairman of the Agency, Shola Jejeloye, who led the operation, it was necessary to remind the operators that the government is against illegal operations across all highways and bridges in the state had not shifted.
He further said the Agency acted based on credible intelligence, which indicated that okada operators had resumed operations along that axis.
He said: “Okada operations across all highways and bridges in the state are forbidden until this very day, therefore, anyone caught operating on these routes is committing an offence. We have heard of pockets of activities taking place across selected areas but we assure them that their motorcycles will be impounded and crushed once the court has given the verdict.”
Jejeloye further added that some okada operators, who were asked why they returned to the highway, said they got the go-ahead from some unscrupulous elements in the street.
These people assured them that they could carry on with their actions as long as they paid a certain daily levy to them.
He warned miscreants who are fond of attacking the Task Force operatives carrying out their legal assignments, stressing that an operative of the Agency was seriously injured while in transit from an operation along the Mile 2 axis.
He disclosed that the official is in stable condition and vowed to apprehend anyone caught in the act of violence towards any Task force official carrying out his legitimate duty.
