Lagos State government has reiterated its commitment towards capacity building for its teachers to ensure quality education delivery.

This was emphasised at a recent capacity training programme organised by the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education in conjunction with Casio Middle East\Africa and the SKLD Integrated Services Limited, for educators in the state.

Speaking on the theme of the training, ‘Equipping Educators with Enquiry-Based Methodology and Accuracy Skills in the 21st Century Classroom, the commissioner Mr Jamiu Alli-Balogun said educators need to be trained with necessary skills and knowledge to be more effective in their roles.

“Our classrooms nowadays have become vibrant hubs of knowledge and innovation, where students are not merely passive recipients of information, but active participants in their own learning journeys.

“As educators, it is our responsibility to equip our students with the tools they need to become fit-for-purpose learners and be able to compete favourably with their peers anywhere globally, hence, the essence of this training.

“Enquiry-based methodology lies in the heart of this transformation as it empowers students to ask questions, explore multiple perspectives, and critically analyse information.

“So, by engaging in inquiry, students develop essential skills such as problem-solving, creativity, and effective communication.”

“As educators, we must equip ourselves with the necessary skills and knowledge to guide our students in the process.”

He urged participants to give the training deserved attention as they are expected not only to be more effective, but also be able to train their colleagues on the knowledge gained.

Also speaking, Chairman of the Lagos Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Mrs Victoria Peregrino, stressed the importance of quality education and teachers to the development of a country and its people.

Peregrino emphasised that a continuous capacity training programme for teachers, just like every other professional, would certainly enrich their knowledge and capability to perform optimally in their service delivery.
