Lagos State launches EcoNexus, emphasising public-private partnerships to drive economic prosperity through a sustainable circular economy.
The Lagos State government has reinforced its commitment to fostering economic growth through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, with a focus on advancing the circular economy.
This was highlighted during the recent unveiling of the state’s new circular economy initiative, ‘EcoNexus,’ aimed at reducing waste and promoting sustainability.

At the launch, held at Four Points by Sheraton, Victoria Island, the Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Mr Ope George, emphasised the role of the private sector in achieving the state’s environmental and economic objectives.
He stated, “As governments, we realise we can’t do everything by ourselves. We know that working with the private sector is very, very important… Especially with this circular economy and climate change, the private sector is part and parcel of what we do.”
George pointed out that previous initiatives, such as ‘Leave No One Behind’ and ‘EcoCirculate,’ have demonstrated how collaborative efforts between the government and private entities can enhance living standards, particularly in underprivileged communities.
“Expanding these efforts, EcoNexus will transform Lagos into a global leader in green innovation and sustainable urban development,” he said.
The EcoNexus initiative aims to catalyse connections across sectors, with the goal of aligning public policies with private-sector innovation.
Special Adviser on Climate Change and Circular Economy, Mrs Titi Oshodi, noted that this new programme would “shape a scalable economic model that is sustainable, resilient, and adaptable to the socio-economic and cultural shifts happening around us.”
Oshodi also introduced a key component of the initiative, ‘Eco Fashion,’ which challenges conventional consumption patterns and promotes sustainable fashion as a force for good.
She highlighted that this would particularly empower women and youth, who are leading the charge in driving sustainable change.
Moreover, the circular economy is a core aspect of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES+ agenda, which prioritises Health, Environment, and Economic Development.
Oshodi explained that by adopting circular practices, the state addresses issues such as waste management, pollution reduction, and job creation, driving a more sustainable and prosperous future for Lagos.
