Lagos State Police payout N28 million to families of deceased officers

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, on Tuesday, gave N28 million in cheques to the families of 78 police officers who died in the course of duties.

Speaking with the relatives of the deceased officers at the state police command headquarters in Ikeja on Tuesday, Idowu said the Force was committed to the welfare of its officers.

The Lagos police chief while sympathising with the deceased’s families urged them to use the money to better their lives.

In response, Gloria Odeh, a deceased officer’s spouse said the money would be used to pay the children’s school fees and complete the building of their home.

“I feel very happy because the money will go a long way and solve a lot of problems. Right now, we have an ongoing project in the house where we live. At least this will take care of some things and pay part of my children’s school fees,” Ms Odeh said.

Ikechukwu Desmond Kester, another relative commended the command for the disbursement and said he would give the money to the mother of the deceased officer.

“It’s been a while that we have been expecting this cheque,” Mr Kester stated.
