Lagos State partners with Jobberman to improve employability of job seekers

The Lagos State Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment has promised that it will continue to use wealth strategies to promote and sustain entrepreneurship and employment through the effective use of wealth creation strategies and resources for the benefit of the residents.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Biodun Onayele made the promise on Monday during an Employability Training Programme organised by the State Government in conjunction with Jobberman, held at the Adeyemi-Bero Auditorium, Alausa-Ikeja.

Jobberman is a Nigerian-based job portal and career platform that lists candidate job applications for employers and helps connect people looking for jobs with companies hiring.

He explained that the event was aimed at providing a free employability training programme that will expose youths to various employability programmes such as soft skills, job interviews and challenges of unemployment in the State, thereby ensuring that the youths are engaged and are not left behind in the scheme of things.

Dr. Onayele reiterated that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu remains unrelenting in the quest to enhance the leadership and employability skills of our youth by connecting them to professionals that would help shorten the learning curve and assist in accessing the sectors and disciplined expertise.

The Permanent Secretary said, “Let me commend JOBBERMAN for the great initiative to train the youths in Lagos State. I am aware that this training will expose the participants to how to write good Curriculum Vitae, Cover Letters, prepare them for interviews, How to properly do job searches, Salary Negotiations, Emotional Intelligence and Teamwork”.

He maintained that the qualities of bringing up new ideas and putting them into reality are imperative for the future workplace as it aids in building a well-balanced life and career, saying that this is a view that JOBBERMAN is committed to.

The Director of Employment in the Ministry, Mrs. Folashade Alabi revealed that the participants are about 500 drawn from the five divisions of the State, namely Ikorodu, Epe, Badagry, Lagos Island and Ikeja

Speaking during the training session, Senior youth engagement consultant with Jobberman, Oladoyin Kolawole, expressed confidence in the participants, saying that they have a better advantage to secure their dream jobs.

According to her, the participants have been exposed to how to comport themselves during job interviews and what employers of labour expect from prospective job seekers. This is in addition to training them on emotional intelligence, management of self and others.

She advised prospective job seekers to register on Jobberman’s website as job seekers so that the organisation can easily contact them whenever there are vacancies that match the information provided on the website.
