The Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment, has once again trained and empowered 350 Persons Living With Disabilities (PWDs) in different vocations such as Hairdressing, Phone repair, Makeup, Gele Tying and Barbing.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony held on Thursday at Adeyemi-Bero Auditorium, the Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Adeyemi Agbotafe stated that the programme is a great initiative and in line with the Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES Plus agenda of inclusiveness to empower and support individuals with physical challenges, irrespective of age, gender, tribe and capability.
Ajigbotafe reiterated that the State Government will create platforms to give persons with disabilities all that is required to achieve their goals in life.
He further opined that the Entrepreneurship programme for persons with disabilities will help contribute to the growth of the economy through newly acquired vocational skills, while also boosting the self-esteem and confidence of the beneficiaries.
He urged the graduands to continue to utilise the knowledge and skills they have acquired from the just concluded entrepreneurship programme to pursue their endeavours, just as he also encouraged them never to look down on themselves to achieve whatever they set their minds on.
Also speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Biodun Onayele congratulated the graduates, urging them to make good use of the skills acquired as great entrepreneurs bearing most of the risk and enjoying most of the rewards.
At the end of the programme, all the graduands were empowered with start-up kits that are relevant to their vocation to enable start up their businesses immediately.
