Lagos State bans Styrofoam packs in an intensified effort to tackle environmental issues caused by single-use plastics.
The Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), widely known as KAI, destroyed ₦5M worth of seized Styrofoam packs across various locations.
The incineration took place in Epe, with support from the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA).
Corps Marshal Major Olaniyi Olatunbosun Cole (rtd) emphasised the government’s commitment, declaring, “The State Government has zero tolerance for Styrofoam usage, and there’s no going back.”
He urged traders to desist from selling the banned packs and warned that street trading on road setbacks, medians, and verges would no longer be tolerated.
LAGESC vowed to enforce laws rigorously and collaborate with other agencies to minimise environmental infractions.
In a related development, the Agency, alongside LASTMA and LAWMA, cleared illegal occupants from the Lagos-Badagry Expressway near LASU.
This followed a petition from Lagos State University, urging the removal of obstructive trucks and vehicles parked illegally. LAWMA also cleared debris used by miscreants to create hideouts along the road leading to the university.
The Lagos State government remains committed to enhancing environmental cleanliness and public safety.
